Speakers made for PA work usually have a (35mm) hole in the bottom to mount them on a stand. If not, there are platform that you can stick to the top of your stand, put the speaker on and then tie them down with a strap.
Alternatively some speakers have holes for screws on the bottom that you can screw an adapter to that allows it to sit on the stand.
Typically studio monitors would have neither (like the TBs and the Rokits). There is a good reason for that, not suited for the road.
So, if you are looking at a permanent stand for practice/studio use, get some good quality monitor stands. If you plan on going on the road with them, get some PA speakers.
