KeymasterHey and welcome to the forum!
I had the same thing when I switched from CDJs to digital, but then I took the dive and went for controller-laptop combo and I never look back.
Currently I rock a Terminal Mix 4 with my MacBook and it works out great. Never looking back to those CD crates and USB stick preparations…

ModeratorHey Nick,
It’s turning out to be quite the Melbourne hang-out here 🙂
Welcome to the forums. And yes, definitely old skool setup (nothing wrong with that btw).
A tip I would give to broaden your options in controllers (and there is plenty of readable stuff on here to help you make that choice) is to get a 4-channel controller and just hook your 1Ks up too. That way you can always fall back to CD’s if you want (and it’s a great backup if your laptop ever crashes, but that is just me). And by the time you feel totally confident with the whole controller/laptop setup, you’ll just hook up your iPhone as a backup and stop lugging the 1Ks around.

ParticipantHey guys, nice to hear form you. I’m not from Melbourne though, I’m from The Hague (Holland).
I recently swapped my DJM500 for a Pioneer XDJ-R1. I hooked up my CDJ’s, but I’m using them less and less. I don’t use the controller functions yet, but I do use the flashdrive with RekordBox export. I love it!

ParticipantI’m mostly into house music, either with a deep/oldschool feeling or latin drums. Nothing too commercial…

ModeratorWell Nick, fellow Dutchie (Utrecht here), you are missing out on (tooooo) much. Get your laptop hooked up, install your favorite software (psssst … try Cross LOL) and digital DJ away!
You have come to the right place, cause there is a zillion people with a burning desire to turn every (potential) DJ into a DIGITAL DJ 🙂

ModeratorWe are many, but we behave (mostly) and keep a low profile (well, not me, but still).

ParticipantHey guys,
My name is Jeroen, I’m 42 years old and am also known as DJ Petro Retro.
I’m from Delft in the Netherlands (near The Hague) and am new to this forum.
I would love to come into contact with a fellow DJ from around the same area. Maybe to get together, share and mix music with each other.
House/dance/progressive and trance is what I mostly like.
I have made 15 DJ mixes of 80 minutes long over the last couple of years which are very much welcomed by my friends.
I haven’t performed live since 1995 but am trying to make a good start digital.
The past year I have been trying to create my own music with Ableton Live 9 and an AKAI Ableton Push controller but am not at a professional level yet.
I mostly have worked on my own at home, but really miss that fellow DJ contact.
Anybody interesting to share thoughts or meet up with me?
Love to hear from you.Greetings!

ParticipantHowdy, welcome!
I’m Alaskan, but living in the Netherlands… there’s a strong contingent of Dutch folks here too.

ParticipantHi there Alaskan,
Great to hear there are many Dutch folks on the forum and thank you for welcoming me!
If I may ask: What city are you from and what kind of music are you into?
I just read your forum about starting out every Friday at your company Flavour. Sounds good I must say.
Hope it is a good experience and more gigs or contacts come out of it.For myself, I just put 2 mixes of mine on Mixcloud:

Maybe you and other guys are interested in listening to them.
Have a good day!Grtz,

There are also some little musical experiments I put on Soundcloud:

ParticipantI live in Purmerend and work in Amsterdam. Playing every Friday here has indeed resulted in me picking up a gig in Berlin last weekend (that went pretty well… some snags, will probably make a post about it), and met the owner of a small but moderately successful indie label, so it was a really great gig. I got that gig because one of the DJs playing there heard and really dug one of my Friday Flavourites mixes.

ParticipantThat’s what I mean. From one gig comes another one if you play & mix well.
Berlin sounds really good. It looks like you enjoyed your time there, apart from the snags then.
Must looks good on your DJ resume.
I know Purmerend, friends of my folks live there. Not too far from Amsterdam. Are you going to ADE Next, the conference for upcoming DJ’s and producers? I was too late to buy a ticket. I have visited ADE Next twice though over the last 4 years, so it’s okay to miss out on this year’s event.
About your weekly DJ-ing on Friday’s at Flavour: Do you play at night or during the day? What kind of music do you play? -
