I would personally go with the MTP2

Well I read that the Denon has better build quality. I want to make sure this controller will last me a for a long time. Why exactly would you suggest the mtp2?

Denon is built like a tank, is heavy duty, thus make them heavy (not all plastic made)
Not sure about how heavy is the Mixtrack Pro II, but it has been praised a lot as THE entry level controller

So if the Mixtrack Pro 2 is the entry level controller and Denon controller is heavy duty, which one would you suggest. I want something that will last but still be able to work with Virtual DJ!

If you are set on Virtual DJ, then I would consider the Reloop Beatmix, it is made for VDJ.

But can’t I just map the MTP2 or Denon to Virtual DJ? From what I understand, I should select a software first, then worry about the controller. This is why I decided VDJ. But between the two controllers, I can’t seem to decide.

    I need more input!

Have you visited a store to get a feel of either device? If you’re in the NW ATL area, you should be close to either a Guitar Center, Sam Ash or even Ken Stanton Music store. I would recommend going there and talking to the reps and watching Youtube videos uploaded by folks who use the controllers.

More than likely they’ll give you the pros and cons of their controller and it will be up to you to decide which controller works best for you. I don’t think there’s a perfect controller so I wouldn’t get caught up trying to find one. I will tell you that for me personally, I didn’t like the Mix Track Pro because I felt the quality build wasn’t there in case I wanted to go mobile.

I took back the Mixtrack Pro and tried the Denon MC3000. My decision to go for Denon was probably naive because I couldn’t get Serato DJ to work without a controller. Sorry, but I don’t remember the details, but I do remember that Serato only gave you the light version of its product and I wasn’t able to fully understand all of the functions.

I then moved on to Traktor and noticed that for at least 30 mins or so I had full function of the software and I liked it. I still use Traktor with the my current controller, the Denon MC6000. I felt the MC3000 was a good controller, but I liked having the bigger brother.

Now, one day I may decide to try out Serato DJ again with the Pioneer DDJ-SX, but it’s not a must at this time for me.

Good luck finding a controller that fits you, but do visit the stores and check them out first.

That’s what I was thinking! Though I couldn’t find a store in my area that has the Denon MC2000 in stock, it sounds like even though the Denon is made nicer overall, the MTP2 is te way to go. Ill mess around a little to see if serato DJ is a good fit or if I should go with VDJ.

Anyone else. Tell me I’m making a mistake if I am. Any input is still greatly appreciated.

@Coltrane09  how long did you have Mc3000? Had any issues with it? I want to buy one

Regarding you question on Virtual Dj: Yes both controllers are natively mapped within Virtual DJ, so they will both work fine

I pesonally own both the MTP (the original) and the MC3000 (the big brother to MC2000), and if they are any indication, the Denon seems better build than the MTP.

But they are both fine, and both great with VDJ. So I would look at the layout of the two controllers, and let that be a major part of my decision. I would probably choose the MC 2000, because it’s has specific buttons for hot cues, effects and loops – on the MTP 2 they are shared/layered. But if you want to play with mapping the yourself, the MTP 2 layout may suit you better.

If you are just starting out why not buy something that works instead of taking on mapping before you can even mix. Find a controller that works with the software, try it out then try some others to make sure.

I’d say there isn’t much that can beat the MC-3000/6000 for sheer build quality. The MC2000 sits a tad lower on the totempole, but it’s still a Denon. So if you need something to take the rigors of the road for a while, I can vouch for it’s durability. If there aren’t any specific features/buttons that you need/like, then it boils down to personal preference mostly I guess.
Good luck & let us know which you picked.

Theres some videos online where elaskins aka DJTutor does some crazy stuff to the mtp2 and it still works so even though its plastic, Its a good quality build. The mtp works out of the box with VDJ no mapping needed. Take price into consideration. Also you may want to check out the G2V.
