MemberOh I know that, thanks for your response, however. With the current set up, however, I don’t get a recording level, nada. And the reason is, I don’t have the right soundcard, at least according to someone I asked. I’m just wondering, how do I get Traktor’s recorder to pick up the mixer?

KeymasterWhy first of all you could get a cheap controller to start off, with a soundcard that will work with Traktor (like the Mixtrack Pro) and then use the internal recording feature of Traktor Pro. You should update to the latest version of Traktor just to be on the save side.
The reason is not the soundcard, if you route mixing to external in traktor (aka use your mixer to mix) then traktor cannot record anything, also not with another sound card, unless you route some signal back to it and record from there.
So for playing digital your setup is not ideal and I would recommend getting a controller instead.October 12, 2012 at 7:16 am #1013459NADAL

cheers, mate. You in the UK? Same time zone almost (I’m an American but in France). anyway, right, what you say is nearly identical to what my mate at the sound shop in Paris told me… thing is, that’s an investment of 300 euros me thinks… hm,, might have to sell off my dog.. *turns around* Zed, zed, come here boyOctober 14, 2012 at 8:49 pm #1013606DrBlue
MemberUse your soundcard (audio 2 was it?) one of the outputs for each of the virtual decks in tractor, into your mixer input line. Then next to the master output on your mixer, you will find a set of outputs called record out.. Then get your hands on a portable digital recorder.. ( I believe there are aps for this on some smartphones aswell, although im not sure)..
I dont have a portable digital recorder myself, so i cant reccomend one, but i suspect they look something like this ( http://magazine.dv247.com/2011/06/17/portable-digital-audio-recorder-comparison/) and cost alot of money..
Alternatively u can go from the record out (on your external mixer), back into your computer on a second soundcard ( I think this is possible on some computers, and record with audacity). Using the microphone input in your computer. This is the cheapest solution, but I am not 100% sure that its possible.. But it might be worth the try as u can get away with only spending cash on a few cables.
And i agree, using external mixers just feels better 🙂

Memberdear Dr. Blue, what a high-quality response, thank you! I was getting very disappointed with these boards but this is great information, very valuable. I have an iPHone so I will try and find an app that will allow me to record. Yes, this was the way I was favoring, rather than have to buy a digital recorder. Thanks again.

MemberGlad I could help! I`ve been wresteling with the same problems myself.. It isnt a problem with the quality of the boards, its more the fact that the majority on this forum runs internal mixing setups i believe (as these in general are cheaper, and more portable, which is sort of the big advantage of digital). I dont have a smart phone, so im gonna go the digital recorder route when I get some cash.. But if you could let me know if you find an app for this that would be sweet, as that might sway my desicion and I might actually advance from the bronze age into moderntimes and get a smartphone xD !
