I think an application like tagscanner would be able to fill your mp3 tags with information from the filename: http://www.xdlab.ru/en/index.htm

Hey cheers! If there is no way of searching by file name I’ll give that a go. It’s pretty ridiculous of NI if they didn’t make it possible to search by filename I think. If anyone else knows if it’s possible to search the filename field in traktor please let me know. I really appreciate your feedback mate, I’m gona have to get right on it – gona be a long day 🙂 Cheers

It shouldn’t be too much work to get the artist and title tags filled according to the file name. Most of the mp3 tagtools like tagscanner support batch jobs. You should be able to select all your songs and let the program work it’s magic. It’s also good practice to use tags instead of filenames, since it’s more portable between systems and platforms.

Also, I’ve heard there is an option in the traktor search menu to search for ‘all’ or for ‘file’, perhaps the second option will result in searching through the filenames. Somewhat misleadingly, the ‘all’ option only searches all tags and not the filenames. Check this discussion + bug report to NI: http://www.native-instruments.com/forum/showthread.php?t=156421

Hey cheers! Whoalla, I used tag & rename to batch tag all files and I’m onto a winner! Now to tag my DNB collection and get on the road again 🙂 So much better using traktor/digital methods than CDs at events taking requests (weddings/functions) it means you have bags of time to stay relaxed enough/approachable for people wanting to take requests, who may book u based on yr attitude/performance on the night. CDs have left a leeway of about less than a minute to interact before it’s vital to have a track loaded ready for play. It was great and so much more flexible to search for tracks at yr finger tips – I love it when stuff works!
thanks for yr input mate, very helpful 🙂
