Having friends is always a good thing. But it is most important in the scene in my experience to be humble, know your history, know your stuff and be kind and helpful. This will gain you friendships all by itself…

Couldn’t agree more. You can learn more from a 30-second conversation with someone who knows first hand about what you want to learn than in potentially a massive amount of time trying to figure something out for yourself.

Try going out to clubs and talking to the DJs directly. Or if you’re lazy, Just use facebook. Add local DJs, event production companies etc. and start talking to them, even if 1 out of like 15-20 people clicks, it’s still a click and you’ll most probably end up getting a gig somewhere or the other. I recently randomly messaged one of the biggest event production companies in my country regarding a Bass music night at a local club, and to my surprise they actually responded positively!!
Active effort man, that’s pretty much all it takes!! 🙂

Know the right people and you can do anything. The more you know, the better chance somebody can help you. All I’m trying to do now is network with people, it’s harder and a much longer process than I thought.
