You can set the range of BPMs that Traktor will attempt to work within – its buried in the settings somewhere. Then you could restrict to a smaller range.

Also there are /2 and *2 buttons that will halve or double the tempo – try those out for a quick fix.

When you say manually changing it do you mean double clicking on the bpm and changing it to 170 in your case, that’s what I do just double it and it works, am I doing it wrong or something??

Using the sync button in traktor will sync to the master deck which in your case has a track playing at 170bpm so a track at 85bpm will now be played at 170bpm…..that’s just traktor for you……as Rob Francis suggested use the /2 x2 option at bottom of decks…..if you have cue points visible you need to change it by clicking the grid button on left under the decks….once you hit the grid button on the right there are buttons marked /2 and x2….these buttons will half or double the bpm of the track playing in that deck……this is useful if traktors bpm detection is off. if traktor detects a track as 70bpm and you know it’s actually 140bpm you click the x2 button to change, tell traktor the track is 140bpm.
