ParticipantI feel you man, dnb never seems to autogrid exactly right. Try clicking “tempo sync” in the midi options. Now when you press sync, only the tempo, and not the beat markers, will sync to the master. You can then adjust the phase to whatever you’d like. Here’s a good article too: http://www.djtechtools.com/2011/10/23/looking-into-sync-power-functions-in-traktor-2/

ParticipantObviously, this whole site is for digital djs who have access to the sync button, but this is a good example of a time when it pays to have learned how to beatmatch manually. If you want to run the middle ground between the two, you can always just manually adjust the pitch fader to match what the software says the master track’s tempo is, then phase it yourself.

ParticipantCheers fella, thanks for your quick reply and massive apologies for my hugely late one! I’ve got a little closer but I’m still having similar problems if you or anybody else knows of a way round it?
When I load a track, I’m currently pressing sync (only to get tempo same as master/last track), then I press play, I press play again to pause it and then cue to take it to the start, finishing with pressing sync to allow me to take sync off and keep the tempo identical.
That’s the only way I”m able to load a new track, keep the tempo the same and use it without sync. I
When you take sync off, the tempo’s maximum range changes, and it’s different everytime so I can’t adjust the tempo to make it faster on certain occasions after taking sync off and making the tempo identical.
Is there a way you can press a button to match the tempo, without it syncing, causing you to need to do all of this to achieve an mix that isn’t beatgridded & synced but has matching tempos that you can adjust when it goes out of phase?sometimes after loading a track and matching tempo using this process, it will allow room for an additional 30bpm or so, even though I have min/max tempo settings going up to 200 bpm. The tempo says it’s identical to the last tune, but the mix needs adjusting to be faster in many cases, due to the incorrect tempo which is displayed and I often don’t have enough range to do it. I don’t know why this is.
Any help will be massively appreciated, cheers!

ParticipantOne thing about Traktor is that you need to use the beatgrid to get the most out of it. DnB is notoriously bad for having the wrong BPM. You’ll have two tracks that are the same BPM but one will read 170 BPM and the other will be 85 BPM. The min/max tempo setting are for Traktor to find and specify the BPM of a track.
Remember there are 2 types of sync in Traktor Tempo and Beat and they do slightly different things. DJ Tech tools is great for in depth Traktor tips, better than NI’s forum IMO.
You can adjust the beatgrid on the fly but it’s much better to do it before playing a set. You can place the grid on the drum beat or snare depending on how you want to mix. If you’re playing tracks with wide BPM difference you can set the pitch range to up to 100% in the setting menu to give you a much wider range of control and select Key lock on the mixer section. Personally, I’d try to keep the BPM’s of a playlist as close togther as possible, 5% preferably or 10% max if you really need to.September 10, 2012 at 3:35 pm #1011951Neil Dee
ParticipantCheers for the tips guys, really helpful. I agree too, this forum walks all over NI!
I managed to get round syncing ok and beat gridded a track that wouldn’t play at the right speed and by shifting the markers for a while it’s turned out well. Pre-setting beat grids beforehand would be great and I’d blitz my whole collection if I could confidently use sync, but till then, I need to get going with it so I’m using tempo only, phasing any adjustments myself on the fly and doubling tempos when needed.
What I really need to know how to do, is set it so that every track is automatically set to the same tempo as master/previous track as soon as it’s loaded, to save having to press sync, then play, then pause, then cue and sync again (to take sync off), which is the only way I know how to make the speed identical to the last track, without having sync prevent me from beat matching the track on the fly.
If you know what I may be doing wrong, or need to do it’d be great to know.
Cheers fella,
Neil

ParticipantA BPM is fixed by the beat the only way to change it would be to warp the track in a program like Ableton. You can’t automatically set tracks in Traktor unless you use the sync. Manually you need to shift the pitch fader but like I said above if the BPM of two tracks are wide apart you need to set the pitch range high on the settings. It much easier and better to have close BPMs
