Well the Denons are really nice controllers, but they have some downsides in my opinion:
Their layout is really cramped and they are both quite dated now. The jogs are also not in the league of most current controllers. Do not get me wrong they still have awesome build quality and excellent sound, but if you have chosen VDJ as your software, there are newer controllers, sometimes for less money. Maybe look through some of our more recent reviews on the frontpage just to get a broader view. If you still want to go Denon, then by all means do so.

Thanks for the prompt response Terry!
Well, the others that caught my eye were the VCI-300 or the VCI-400, but both seem more tailored to Serato??!

Are the Vestax offerings more recent than the Denon ones? And again, I guess the same question applies… are 4 channels and a standalone mixer worth the extra cost when compared to the cheaper, smaller, 2 channel options?

Not to start an arguement Terry, but while the Denon jogs are slightly smaller than some of the options you have mentioned, they are still some of the most ‘responsive’ and solid jogs out there today. In fact, the new SC2900’s are using the exact same technology, just on a bigger physical jog.

But back to the original post… Between the two, I prefer the 6000 (I use one for almost all my shows now) but the reviews on the 3000 all seem pretty positive as well – just lacks a couple of things I feel I need.

You are totally right Oddity, I just like people to know all their options.
The jogs on the 6000 (I did not try the 3000) are quite OK, but I like the feel of bigger jogs that also have more “turn around” (do not know if that is clear what I mean by that). But that is personal choice.
The 6k is an excellent unit still, but as I said some things feel more cramped than on other things. But this can also be an advantage as the unit is still quite portable and has one of the best build qualities around.

Todd/Terry – Thanks to you both for your advice. It’s DEFINITELY been useful. Terry, I think you answered my question anyways with your views on the VCI-400, the Mix 4 and N4 – that you prefer the 4-channel mixer. I’ve seen a 6000 (ex-display) unit on sale, which I’m hoping to snap up!

I have an MC6000. Solid unit and def alot of manufacturer support on their forums. Denon keeps updating the firmware and adding profiles for Traktor on the Denon forum. That said, switch to Traktor and don’t look back.

Also, keep in mind that the VCI doesn’t have a dedicated sound interface, the MC’s have a fairly good sound card built in. One less thing thing to carry around a plug in.

That’s hardly an accurate statement. Any tool is only as good as the person using it…
