Actually I am being dumb. The Kontrol 1 has BALANCED TRS jack sockets which means I can connect to the XLR on the A7. So the signal will be balanced – which is a first for me!

Indeed, go for TRS to XLR it is surely the better solution for such highend monitors, the A7s are a wonderful piece of gear.
