If you’re on a Mac, iTunes is really your only choice. On a PC you can use MediaMonkey (for instance), but the thing with iTunes is your playlists are right there in your DJ software.

I know, I’m on a PC but feel forced to use iTunes because there is no support for any other softwares in Traktor.
Would love to be able to use another software but think I just have to accept using iTunes..

I share similar displeasure with several features of itunes but its really only downhill from there on a mac. I miss the good ol’ winamp days. Epic skins and all that.

Sorry but it sounds like your hate for iTunes is actually more into hating the Apple brand then anything else.

I have been using iTunes for ages and it works perfectly.
If you feel like there is too much options in there just go into the Preferences and clean things up.
Take out Ping, TV, Podcast and anything you don’t use.
Make sure to have iTune keep you media folder organized.

I have no problems with renaming, importing or tagging tracks.
Use folders and smart playlists to make everything faster and easier.

I hate itunes also. The only reason I’m forced to use it is because I have an iPhone. Got to use it if I want to put any music on my phone. Other then that I don’t use itunes at all. Its not even downloaded on my DJ laptop. Windows 7,serato itch and mixed in key are the only programs besides virus protection on my DJ machine.

I love Apple but I feel like that itunes (although very good) could be much better compared next to everything else they do.

I feel for you my friend. i too installed itunes with the best intentions. i thought all those ipod/ipad/iphone users cant be all wrong. and i tried. being an ex winamp user myself i only lasted a week. yes that’s it. i uninstalled itunes and will try again maybe in two year’s time. it might run better on a mac i dont know. but on a pc its too slow. and i like playing with files and folders in the hard drive and loading things from there if i want to.

i never tried traktor. i use vdj7 and so far i had no issue making playlists in winamp then either load them through vdj. you can either find them in the hard drive in vdjs browser or if you save them in mydocuments/virtual dj/playlists then they appear in the playlists section of virtual dj.

Heard mediamonkey is good too. i installed it after itunes but didnt play with it too much. was too eager to get back to winamp. i just love all the different plugins you can get for it (especially dynamic library) and that it’s fast. can be a bit unstable. but so i make sure i save plenty but i dont think ill be changing anytime soon. this winter when i get more time ill give mediamonkey a closer look.

It’s years since I’ve used iTunes away from the Mac, but it’s fine on a Mac and it’s of course right there in all DJ software – that’s the killer feature!

I happen to love iTunes (Mac), but that’s one of the benefits of being a Serato guy.

Also, there is a program (not free) for Macs (Media Rage) that I bought that is a media monkey equivalent.
It can batch re-write all your file names to “Artist ### – Track ###” from the iD3 tags etc…
