you have a great opportunity to create something here, its a blank canvas (no dancing enviroment) be clever and create a scene at this place.

I’m a resident Dj at a lounge myself. Yes it’s different then a club, but it’s still a gig, I don’t look down on any gig, you’re sitill responsible for the music, and if you screw up people will notice. It still presents challenges, IHMO the mix in a lounge should be even smoother then in the club, and yes, creating an atmosphere is different then the energy level, but for me it’s a challenge all the same albeit of a different kind. And all experience is never bad. It also may help you in the longer term by scoring additional gigs, and it’s always cool having the name ‘resident Dj’ on your resume 😉 So I would just go for it 🙂

If you’re bored then this is the perfect opportunity to find some music that isn’t boring to mix without patrons dancing. Take advantage of the flexibility your digital gear offers you and make some cool mashups or live remixes. At the end of the day if you really love mixing you will stumble on things that keep a less than energetic set interesting for you…if not then consider, as mentioned above, the other advantages that could come of this such as scoring other gigs and making some coin.

DJing in a lounge is like serving a 60 course 5 star menu…
Try to tell a story or theme with your songs throughout the night, follow the different times look in the faces of the people and make them excited to come back.
DJing a lounge can be challenging and if people come back, because of you it is also very satisfying for the DJ. You have to improvise a lot more than in a dance club, where people go to have a good time… in a lounge you have a lot more sad people, angry people, lonely people,… and it is your duty to entertain them (and not play emo suicidal tunes for lonely people… hehe)
