eg: listen to both tracks in headphones

ps. i dont mean to sound patronising there.

Depends on what you are using.
Are you using a controller or straight from the laptop?

do you have a “multi-channel” audio device? do you mean, “from your headphone port” ?

no controller involved, its headphones via a usb soundcard (thats plugged into laptop). the usb does have two outputs one for headphones and the other is mic.

do i need something else to get split cueing?

click “config” at top right of screen
once there, you want “sound setup” on the far left
click the drop down arrow on “soundcard” and select your audio device
above that click “outputs”-2nd option down is “headphones” this is what you want
to the right of that, you can choose which of the outputs do what

    Ohh!..my bad dude.
You want to know about “PFL” buttons. OK, http://it.virtualdj.com/forums/117266/General_Discussion/What_does_the_PFL_button_do_.html
Another interesting side note to this is that in the setting, options, you can tell vdj how to deal with the waveforms visually, the setting is called auto headphones.

surely you must be able to hear both the track playing out and the track to be mixed in in the headphones? the most basic of mixers will let you do this.

    Logmover,

What you are looking for is the “Cue Mix in Headphones”, are you using the pro version of VDJ?
As far as i know , this function is only available in the 4 Deck Default Version 7 skin. You will find it at the top of the skin. Change the settings to say 50% and then you should her both tracks
