Participantim half deaf in my right ear Actually more than 60% and I do fine. I just learn to use visual cues and use my bad ear as a base counter and my good ear for everything else. Dont sweat it at all and just dive right in.

ParticipantAs long as your controller has a Cue/Mix knob you’ll be fine. Turn it to ~10 o’clock so that you can hear both the master through your headphone as well as the one that you’re cueing

ParticipantThank you for your answers and sorry for being a bit late myself 😉
I really appreciate your advice! Got some good news today – my cousin (a dj, too) is buying a kontrol s4, giving me his “old” s2 for a special family price, 100€ 😀 i’m a tiny bit excited when it arrives tomorrow – and its got a cue/mix knob.
@ Frosh: So I definitely follow your advice 🙂
@ D.J.Manhatten: Thank you for your encouragement and tips! It helps a lot!
@ IsnremiX: This guy is really amazing, thank you for pointing me to his site 🙂
I guess im ready to start to practice tomorrow with my brand “new” s2 =)
I think i will post in the forum a bit more from now on, questions and such things 😉Cheers

ParticipantIm glad, go out there and have fun! Remeber the only limits you have are the ones you put on yourself.

MemberListen to what DJ Manhattan has to say.(pun intended) I lost most of my mid and high frequency hearing as a teen and I was able to mix turntables.I only wish I had access to this technology 20 years ago!

ParticipantI’m partially deaf in 1 ear and I manage just fine. Use that cue/mix knob in your headphones helps a lot if its a noisy environment. Just be careful that you’re careful with the volume. You don’t need to start losing hearing in your good ear either.

ParticipantThank you Guys =)
I really can’t afford to loose my good ear , so i already kepp the volume down (but its louder what other people are considering as “normal” xD )
@ DJ Manhattan: Fun & music is on the Top of my list 🙂
Sadly, my new s2 broke already – the Gainfader sends all-time midi signal, making it unusable – Gladly i got one month warranty left X) now i have nothing to play around with 🙁 Only my old Herc MP3 e2 😉
2-3 weeks repair or instant replacement – i hope its not repairable 😉@ Eric Garret: Yes, the techology is incredible – making the entry to djing easy. But i would like to learn beatmatching manually, escpecially if i have to take over from a turntable DJ (later that year i have the chance to dj at a local funfair with a CDDJ – plenty of time to practice beatmatching a bit)
I’m surprised how many djs in this forum are hard of hearing / have hearing loss. I thought i was the only one xD
It’s good to see i’m not 🙂@ Steelo: The cue/mix knob is pure awesome 🙂 and, btw, how many controllers do you have? 😉

ParticipantI don’t have a crazy amount but…
I run Traktor 2 with an S4 + 2 timecode turntables (for scratching and keeping my vinyl skills tight), a midi fighter, iphone running TouchOSC + a few other cool things, hacked Kindle Fire runnig TouchOSC and a Kontrol F1 on the way! I occassionally run ableton too so I’m looking forward to seeing how Traktor 2.5 goes so I can just use Ableton for production. I don’t really have any more room on my table and have to work out how to ship it all back home in a few months time.May 14, 2012 at 6:18 pm #1004403Marcel Wambsganss
ParticipantThats impressive, how you don’t lose track of all the controls? 😉
I personally prefer hardware knobs instead of the touchscreen equivalents. I tried TouchOSC and i missed the tactile feedback 😉 It’s also bad that the android version doesn’t support custom layouts.

ParticipantEvery controller has a different purpose but its a lot of work to use them all at once. Lots of prep time for some of them too. I generally prefer hardware too but for effects the XY pad in TouchOSC is sick. Just like a Kaoss pad.
I’ve spent a lot of time worming on getting that kindle running the way i want. Doing lots of computer stuff thats way beyond me and I still haven’t quite got right yet. But there is a work around for getting custom layouts on it.I’ve been broke and eating noodles a lot of the time to get my fix on new toys. Think I’m done for a while after the F1.

ParticipantI’m on a noodle-diet too – why are toys for men so expensive :/ LEGO’s were cheaper 🙂
On Android i recommend the XY + PAD view with “TouchDAW” – i just started figuring out how to use the pad for effects – its definitly fun =)
