    Dedicated means that the laptop will not share the RAM with other computer operations – it is solely dedicated to graphics/visuals.

    The spec is definitely OK for audio, but video editing etc is notoriously processor hungry, and not a field I know a lot about.

    Hey cheers for that.
    I’ve had a little change of heart with Mac and thinking of sticking to my instinct.
    I’m looking at getting a viao instead after speaking to friends but want to be sure that other DJ’s have used non-Mac laptops that have never crashed or had a problem, when using it only for DJ’ing with.
    It’d be good to assure myself with opinions of non-Mac using DJ’s that have never had a problem playing out live with their laptops using midi devices.
    I was drawn towards Mac because many people say they are the most reliable laptops for the job. It’s a trustable brand that DJ’s will follow to assure themselves on reliability, but since the laptop will only be doing only two tasks;
    DJ’in using traktor
    VJ’in on VDJ for disco’s (very rare occasion)
    I would imagine that a Sony Viao would be a better option, as I’d have to spend over a grand to get a good enough Mac. I’ll be paying for assurance of quality on a Mac when viao is probably just as reliable, although viao just hasn’t gained the reputation Mac currently has. I know the operating system is the main reason for this, but I hear that windows 7 is reliable in this context but would just like some more assurance before I go out and spend.

    A new laptop is kind of like choosing a wife, u gotta find the right one before you commit!(My god that sounds cheesy as owt! I probably should have erased that bit, ah sack it!)

    So yeah, I’m back between the Mac and the Viao after hearing good things about them, any comments/advice is more than welcome 🙂

    Personally I’d choose a Mac – I run DDJT on a Mac which I also DJ with and it’s worked fine for 3 years with no hitches (MacBook Pro 13, 4GB RAM, nothing special). Mind you I owned a Vaio before that which while really slow now, lasted me 5 years.

    Cheers Phil (great site this btw!). My 4gb Ram, i5 vaio is here, but battery only lasts 3 hours, if that. So, I’m going to return it and pay a little more for a Mac, for better battery life running the Ergo live (avoiding power cables). Only running traktor pro 2 so I’d hope I would’nt need such beast of a machine to run it, hopefully a slim i3/i5 macbook pro will do the job.

    Does Macbook pros battery consumption get higher when using external midi controllers with their own sound cards?
    I noticed bad feedback on my laptop when it was plugged in to mains, using phono out to the mixer. I need to avoid this when playing live.
    Thus, I need a long battery life macbook pro, but wonder if it will last 4 hours minimum (7hour expected on web browsing) to power my DDJ Ergo from it’s battery.
    It’s a 13″ macbook pro, nice spec but need to be sure before I go spending. I’ll be using Traktor, wondered if anyone knows a 13″ screen will be big/bright enough? My eyesight is fine, just not sure if the resolution of Traktor can be adjusted to suit a small screen – then I’m complete! Found a great deal & can’t wait to get cracking with it!
