Member10/10 !! I had downloaded the trial version of Traktor and spent ages just playing off my laptop and learning the program. I wanted a controller that was going to be plug and play and well integrated with the software. All I remember is that when I finally got it, I only left the house once that week and that was to buy milk for coffee !!

Memberfirst dedicated dj controller I got was the icon idj, the thing never got mapped for about 6-9 months as it felt too steep a learning curve at the time. There is no support from the manufacturer even after repeated requests!. I ended up using simple midi, with basic commands. I give it 1/10 on the carl cox scale. Now that it’s finished it’s 8/10 on the webbha and pedro delgardo scale. which converts to about 7/10 carl cox’s.
But my first foray into digital djing came with vinyl timecode, it was 8/10 on the carl cox scale because I instantly had access to tunes I could no longer get on wax, it was virtual vinyl so came with a soundcard made for it, so basically plug and play.

MemberI bought an NS6 without really knowing how to DJ aside from the very basic of the basics. I originally tried to run it with my desktop PC (it had more music at the time), but the latest version of ITCH (I think this was around the 2.0 release) was not available for Windows. Couldn’t get it to work, so I’d give it a 3/10, which was frustrating, especially since this thing cost me a grand.
Then, I installed the new version of ITCH on my MacBook Pro (why I didn’t start there, I’m not entirely sure), and it all ran swimmingly. Unfortunately, I still didn’t know what I was doing as *a DJ*, so despite knowing all the hardware/software functions, I didn’t have the skillset to actually do anything meaningful. I can bump it up to 5/10 (passing grade), but no higher because of my lack of development.
If knew then what I know now, I would have scored it 10/10 no problem.

Bought a mixtrack pro was well excited waiting for it to come. It finally made it here on a friday while i was at work got home at around 1130 pm spent ages trying to set it up fast and failing. Finally after a long time setting it up about 2am now found out i couldnt find my headphone adapter how disapointed i was. so i spent about 2 more hours trying to play it very quietly on my stereo system. failing terriably.
If only i had gone to bed early i would have been able to go to shop on saturday and buy adapter but i slept in until 9 am started work at 10 till 6 and after this all shops are closed.
So finally come monday i buy the adapter get home and having a great time very nooby style of mixing but having an amazing time. 2 hours later i was in need of some pain killers and right behind the box was my adapter!
So really after all this and was completly setup fine i would say
fun factor 8/10
mixing style 1/10
I still have so much to learn, even though i have done some djing live in the past there was no real mixing needed it was just one song to another along side a mate. mobile djing.
After reading these forums and buying Phils dj tutorial i beleave i have improved much much more.
so now i would rate my experience
fun factor 10/10
mixing style 5/10Can only keep getting better, especially with these forums.

MemberFinally got my Traktor S2 and Traktor Pro today. Loving it – many possibilities & stuff to learn and experiment with 😀
8/10 – purely as I now have to go to sleep and work tomorrow to pay for it :p
but I know months and years of enjoyment await 🙂

MemberI’d been fiddling with VDJ home for a while just with my keyboard and mouse so I knew enough to find my way around. I guess I’d give it a 7/10. I was unimpressed with the pitch fader accuracy of my mixtrack. I liked the sensitivity of the jog wheels though. Even if I only used them to scroll through songs. I used synch a lot more than I should have but I like to blame that on the pitch faders 😛
There was something simple about it too. I wasn’t trying too hard to mix songs together I was just playing by ear and playing what i wanted. It was more fun.

I am still a new DJ but when I purchased my numark mixtrack pro I felt like a damn professional cause i had some legit hardware to actually mix with versus using my whole computer keyboard and constantly forgetting which buttons I had mapped out…..also found my self throwing the mixer to the far right and then using the left decks jog wheel producing absolutely no sounds but it made me feel like a pro haha

Haha I had the same thing with the iPod Touch! What a blast! I’d take it on roadtrips with an FM transmitter and dj for everyone in the car for hours (what I consider my first public gigs :)).

ParticipantBefore I’ve got my Mixtrack pro I was watching videos on youtube about how to mix and so on. So when I opened the box and hooked up everything I felt I know everything and when I press the play button I’m gonna be like a DJ God.
10/10 on that everything worked out of the box not a single hick up, so that was a positive thing.
1/10 on that DJ God thing since I had not a single idea what was I supposed to do when I opened Traktor and looked at the screen. Beat griding and such things were totally unknown for me.
After few hours messing around in Traktor and getting used to the controller I started to feel more confident.
It’s a very good memory that day….at the same time I’m angry with myself because if I knew that I know now about myself I would have start with this kind of things 10-15 years ago and who knows what would I do today. 🙂February 24, 2012 at 1:02 am #15549Kairi_Yamoto

Got myself an S4 for my birthday (christmas eve) with my christmas bonus check from work, after doing loads of research on controllers and a personal recommendation from a buddy of mine that DJ’s (he uses DVS, but is just as much at home on controllers)
Family was visiting, so my cousin, aunt, and grandmother were there..but everything worked outta the box as soon as I got it home, spent about 2 hrs playing halo with my cousin while it analyzed my music, after that…from about 3PM til…5AM, I was up messing with songs, looping them, setting hot cues, getting familiar with it and having a blast in the process, my mother came and told me to use my damned headphones…..which I didn’t listen to, lol.
Overall, great experience, and I’m looking forward to many many more as I learn more about the S4 each day.

I got a BCD2000 having done no research, plugged it in to my Windows 7 64bit laptop. Fail.
Was especially annoying as it’d been a big decision to even try out digital DJing (I’d been using turntables for about 8 years before that and wanted to try out one of these controller thingos befoe I blew a few grand on CDJ2000s)
It was only after setting it up on an old Windows XP laptop that I began to saw the opportunities, however I still tended to prefer using the turntables at home and CDJs when I was out .
Six months later I got a new controller.
Turntables have barely been used since (which is kinda sad) and the CDJ purchase is off the table .February 24, 2012 at 9:06 am #15570coupon
MemberIt was kind of like when I bought my first manual car. I was so excited to finally get it but after an hour or so trying to learn how to use it, I didn’t touch it for a week out of frustration.

Participant7/10: i got my first controller, a VCI-300 MKII, about two months ago. I got it because i was researching DJ controllers for several months and former turntable DJs on a budget recommended it over the Numark Mixtrack Pro. Plus, i wanted something compatible with Itch. I like the controller, and won’t be trading it in (until i can afford the Numark NS-7!). I think if i were new to DJing the experience would have been more exciting (i still remember how it felt to use my first set of turntables!). It was cool, but didn’t keep me up all night like when i first got Serato or when i got my Rane mixer.
