You are right they both are great controllers. I’m not sure about beginner controllers, they are more proffesional as to what controllers can go, if you’re starting I would recommend a Numark, Vestax or Reloop in my opinion, depending on the model of course. Oh and also, it’s not of course everyone but at least me when it comes to used gear, I dont like to buy it, maybe its almost new or anything, I still don’t trust it, and it cost maybe a little less than a brand new so my advice is save a little more money and buy a new controller, hope this helps. Good luck -Spin

There’s nothing inherently harder about using the S4 than any other controller, it’s just got more there if you need it.

All right, that’s the response I was expecting. Thanks a lot, Spin and Phil.

Spin, I might be looking at this too deeply, but do you stay away from used equipment because you find it’s generally of poor quality, or simply because you would prefer to buy something new?

Of course it’s not always poor quality, I’m just saying that stuff happens sometimes with used gear, depending on who used it, the state of the equipment, how long it was used, etc. I also prefer buying new equipment of course, who doesnt? But my point is just make sure what you’re buying isn’t broken or anything.

If its in your budget get the S/H s4 if not get a new s2 I got the s2 and love it I am just gettin to grips with the cue points and effects at the moment but soon be throwing in some samples. Nice audio out also on the s2 very clear with nice smooth base through my setup much beter than the omni I used before. ( omni) great solid controller by the way.

Hahaha okay, that’s what I thought you were getting at, thanks for clarifying, Spin.

Thanks Simon, another opinion is always helpful. I’m glad you’re enjoying the S2.

I’d be nervous that something was wrong with it. Either the crossfader or jog top. Not generally impressed by the build quality enough to trust a used one.

I would think twice before buying a used controller dispite what brand it is.
You should check with Native Instruments if you still can upload future upgrades for the S4.
And check that every single buttón and fader works as it should before paying!

If those two things is OK I can not find anything speaking against buying the unit.
Except if you want better quality that comes with Denon IMO

Thats what I was saying, you should check the product before buying it, can you even get a warranty from a used product? Maybe the product is in great shape, but I dont know if its just me, I tend to stay away from used equipment. I would just save up some more money and buy a brand new piece of equipment.
