I think u should do somthing like this ,

    • Do the counting alot till it becomes a second nature ( Bars – Phrases – Verses – choruses ..Know how to count in breaks without beats )
    • know the main musical structures of ur genres that u play most ( Listen then Listen Aaand Listen )
    • Train ur ear on becoming able to separate the sound of musical instruments that plays in the same time also to be able to detect keys of the song that u would put next in a dj set by knowing if the key is right to do or wrong ..etc (My english is .. )
    • gather and searsh for good sources of good music u LiKE

I hope this can help a bit 😎 , if u have some other questions u think i can answer dont hesitate 😉

And take Phil’s course when it’s released. Seriously, it’s like cramming a couple of years of learning into something you can watch in one day. I wish something like it had existed way back when I started.

I have djay on the iphone which if I get inspired I can try to mashup two songs…if it has potential I write down the info and can full around with it when I get home on the mixtrack.

Also, I am waiting for my external soundcard to come so I can start Cueing in the headphones then really focus on beatmatching.

So, my question is what can I do at work and at home to best utilize my time as a beginner DJ?
Scower forums at work and beatmatch and work on phrasing till my ears bleed at night?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Forgot to mention that I currently have virtual dj LE with a mixtrack at home and will be getting an NS6 with itch in a few months. I figure I want to focus on the basics now while I can before I get distracted with all the goodies on the ns6. I really don’t need to be using 4 decks if I can’t even handle 2 lol

Dude use Youtube if you want to gain popularity and practice as much as you can…!!
