MemberBoth are good software imo, traktor much more complex ie: learning curve wise vdj7 easy setup to get u going, try the Demo on site to see if it suits your needs… really it comes down to personal preference …..

MemberMy mixtrack came with vdj LE and I do get on with it quite well but people say that traktor is better which is why I’m unsure if I want to pay for vdj pro.
Any thoughts on my dilemma?

MemberVDJ works very well for me. I’m still fairly new to DDJing and I’m still trying to figure out everything. One thing I’ve noticed though is that VDJ doesn’t really allow for specifying what cue points are what (i.e. cues, load marker, etc.) And from what I understand, VDJ doesn’t have features like Traktor’s quantize or loop snap functions. Either that, or I haven’t spent enough time reading about VDJ’s features yet.

MemberYou see those features you mention on traktor I havent used or seen. I’m pretty new to DJ’ing myself and I’m really starting to think right at this minute traktor is above my level.

MemberIn that case, I highly recommend VDJ. I started on it; my starting gear was the MixLab skin, a keyboard, and a mouse. When I bought the MixTrack Pro, it mapped natively to VDJ really well. If you buy VDJ 7.0, there’s a filter wet-dry on the skin but not on the MixTrack and it’s super useful…I made a thread around here somewhere if you wanna check it out.

MemberAwesome, if you could link me to that thread it would be much appreciated 🙂

MemberHey steve_07, the link to the mapping code for the filter knob for VDJ 7.0/MixTrack Pro can be found here. Hope this helps you figure out the best course of action!

Memberpersonally I’m not a fan of VDJ. Even though it’s what I learned on, and what I know how to use. It crashes on me a lot, so there’s that… It doesn’t synch very well with my controller (mixtrack) perhaps I could fiddle with some settings idk.. But traktor just feels and looks so much better in my opinion. All those bells and whistles do have a purpose. So as far as purchasing the full version, I’d vote traktor. VDJ LE should suffice, as it’s really not that different. With pro you get a few effects, also video options, but not much changes really. VDJ’s definitely easier to learn on, but I don’t think you need the pro version for that.

MemberI have tried VDJ and other software in the past but always go back to Tracktor. It’s up to the person using the software, what they feel comfortable with. I sugest use both as demo’s b4 you buy if you can and see which u like best.

MemberI agree traktor looks better and feels a better package and that vdj is easier to use. Best option I think is to learn as much as I can on vdj then switch to traktor where the learning curve won’t be so much

KeymasterI find Traktor overcomplex for just “playing records”, but better if you want more complex controllerist functions – looping, samples, quantising etc.

ParticipantI agree on Phil on this one.
Traktor is a very complex program that takes a lot of time to learn/configure if you are going to use its full potential.
VDJ is more plug and play.

MemberI myself would rather use the more complex software with minimal features then play for a while and find out im lacking control. if you have a program already stick to it traktor 2 is a fair bit of money to just ditch. I changed from vdj to traktor 1 and found it hard at first since it was so different, after a while I got used to it and found it complimented my style and djing a lot more!

MemberStuck with Traktor, I think it will have more benefits in the long run to do so while saving me money at the same time
