    Hello Salacum 🙂
    My Step-Father has his Own Label and Publishing Company;
    But it depends what you are going to do with this Label;
    Whether you are going to put out your Own Tracks; or put out Other People’s Tracks; or Both;
    If you are going to use the Label to put out your Own Material you have to be Careful of not falling into the Trap of ‘Self Publishing’ as Authors Often Do; as you are Responsible for the Cost Of Everything; and you will Still Need to Find A Distributor for your Product/Material; (unless you are just going to ‘Hope’ that it sells on Beatport etc);
    With Other People’s Tracks; again I Must Stress that ‘Unless’ you are going to ask the Artist to put ‘All Monies Up Front’; which isn’t Very Businesslike; Your Label will be Responsible for All Costs; and the Artist will Expect A Good Service;
    So; All Advertising; Publishing; Art Work; and the Paying of a Distributor will be Down To You;
    Obviously there are Great Gains from an Independant Label that becomes Successful; and I am Sure that this is Your Goal; but again there will be Solicitors Fees as Artists will be Signing Over Their Material to You for Some Years; and if they Feel they can get a Larger Audience (through Bigger Exposure) by Signing to Another Label; then it is Important that Monies are Put Aside for this Eventuality of Court Cases Dragging On And On;

    However; Research Each Step Well; With Confidence; and I am Certain You Will Get There 😎

    Be prepared to lose a lot of money and/or not make much money at all for a while. In fact, use the music as promotional material and work to get your acts bigger gigs to play live.

    Know marketing…and think marketing. Don’t just sit there thinking like a DJ or music nut. Don’t get mad if you see “crap” selling like hotcakes while your “better” stuff isn’t.

    Be in it for the right reasons, and treat it like a business. If you guys just want to make the music you love, but think not many will be into it, then you might want to go smaller and just be a group and push yourselves with freebies all over the social media networks.

    Again, I notice the bigger money is in the live gigs…way more than selling tracks.

    Thanks for the feedback there. Definitely some good points.

    This is more of a project because it interests me a lot. I have got in to production but im nowhere near a level to release my own stuff and I don’t think I will be for a couple of years but we have no intention of releasing our own tracks, possibly remixes at the most.

    We have found a distributor and artist for artwork who also produced our logo.

    Obviously this can lead to DJ gigs but the idea is to be more involved in something we love, i’m not gonna lie that i’d love to be djing, producing at the highest level but its soo unlikely plus I love my day job. I hope it goes well and thanks for the responses.
