    We’ve been meaning to review Hit ‘n’ Mix but not got round to it yet. It’s not the best quality-wise, apparently, but a great idea. you might want to think about using longer vocals in key – when you find a vocal that really “fits” an instrumental it’s a great feeling.

    I’d like to here from others on this too. I collect MusicTech and Computer Music mags w the CDs. My sample folder from all the mags is 36 gig organized by instrument type/loop/fx/vocal. I also make my own samples in Recycle for songwriting but I haven’t put any of it into DJing but I’d like to use the sample slots in Traktor.

    I usually use sound forge to get my samples, just cut and and slice part of tracks that I wanna use as sample. I have a small library of sample. I also Live 8 samples.

    I like using sound effects and other weird noises as bridges between music (especially if I’m really changing the mood/bpm). One example: using a rumbling thunder and rain before cueing something edgy and dark. Gives the dancers a chance to breathe and builds expectation.

    Seperating Vocals from Tracks has been ‘One’ of my Priorities over the past 2 Years; and having tried up to 20 Different Software Programmes (that Claim to be able to do this); the Only Software that I have Witnessed Successfuly Removing Vocals and Creating an Acapella; or Removing the Vocal and Creating an Instrumental; has been ‘Garageband’ that is tucked away inside of Logic (Apple); I don’t have this Software; but I have seen it done and been Totally Amazed 😎

    heh? garageband, really? The only method I found on that was cutting the tracks L or R channel. Apparently with some tracks, the vocals are recorded on the left and instruments on the right. Didn’t work for me though. There’s always phasing but that’s assuming you have the instrumental already, and even then…
    I cut my samples out in ableton it’s kinda tedious work though.

    Yes; I use Ableton too; and as at the end of the day getting a Clean Acapella is Virtually Impossible (unless the Vocal is Recorded ‘Exactly’ in the Middle; Left; or Right Channels); I just Cut Pieces out from the Track and Repeat them during a Remix (if that is what I am trying to do);
    I have just spent some time on YouTube and of course (when you want it); can’t find a Suitable Video explaining How to do it in Garageband; I will have to Defer and just say ‘I Don’t Know’;
    Ableton is Useful with the Utility Plug In (if I remember correctly) for ‘Phasing’; but I have yet (having tried probably 50 Tracks – and just got Bored of it) to Create even a Half-Decent DIY Acapella 🙁

    i just use mixcraft and a youtube downloader, it expands my creativity, making new samples
