Ableton Tips & Tricks: Speed Up Your Workflow By Making A Template

Making your own default template helps you get started making music faster because you've got your favourite sounds ready to go.

One of the worst feelings in the world is having an idea for a melody or a drum passage, and then completely forgetting it when you open up your DAW to record it. In this tips and tricks article I’ll share one of my favourite hacks for getting song ideas down quickly in Ableton Live, which is by making your own template. This means that whenever you open up the DAW, you automatically get your favourite instruments, sounds and plugins loaded so you can start making music straight away.

This is particularly useful if you always begins your productions with a handful of instruments and audio tracks: For example, I always start my project with Ableton’s stock Grand Piano, a 909 drum kit, and two empty audio tracks. By creating a template with these four tracks, I can fire up Ableton and get started producing without delay.

I love this trick because it’s so simple and easy to do, but it gives your workflow a huge boost! Try it out.
