Spire Is A Complete Recording Studio In A Battery-Powered Box

A bit like the Evermix MixBox but for vocals and instruments, Spire lets you record, edit and share directly from your iPhone or iPad.

Spire is a small, portable “recording studio in a box”, of interest to DJ/producers who work in the field with vocalists or live instruments as part of their productions.

It is battery powered, and has both a built-in studio-grade mic and XLR/TS combo jacks for plugging in electronic or analogue instruments. Spire features a handy “soundcheck” feature that automatically sets levels, and can record up to eight stems for each song you work on.

The clever stuff, though, happens in the iOS partner app, which the unit syncs with automatically via WiFi when connected. The app, Spire Studio, allows artists to apply iZotope effects before exporting for further work on a computer, or simply sharing directly with friends or to online services such as SoundCloud.

Spire is high quality, simplifies field recording massively, and is definitely innovative, although at $349 is certainly not cheap. More info at spire.live.
