Move Over Musikmesse, Sample Music Festival Is Here

The growing Sample Music Festival is in Berlin this weekend, and promises lots to those interested in sample-base music, turntablism and beatmaking.

With the sad fall from grace of Frankfurt’s Musikmesse when it comes to what DJs and producers want to see from a show, it’s good to see alternatives getting established. This weekend sees an event that will particularly interest DJs and turntablists – The Sample Music Festival in Berlin.

SMF18 is largely free, and has quietly reached its fourth anniversary, establishing itself on the calendar with a mixture of lectures, workshops and showcases around turntablism, finger drumming and beat making.

Alongside the likes of Superbooth, it represents a growing roster of European events for the next generation of DJs, producers and beatmakers – and with Mr Switch, Eskei 83 and DJ Unkut among the artists appearing, looks like being a lot of fun too.

It all happens at the Generator Hostel and Cassiopeia venue in Berlin from this Friday, 31 August to Sunday 2 September.
