This all started when we noted the similarity in the organ sound on Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa’s “One Kiss” to pop house classic “Gypsy Woman” by Crystal Waters. A couple of loops and a bit of deft programming on the Roland DJ-808 controller’s sequencer later, and we had this little DJ Skill Session routine.
The tracks worked harmonically together “out of the box”, but we had to find an unofficial acapella of Dua Lipa’s vocal to make this work. The rest of the routine just involved dropping parts in and out of the sequenced drums (the simplicity of the drums isn’t so far removed from those on the original Crystal Waters track). We programmed two variations on the drum pattern, so you see me switching between them throughout the routine.
