This App Lets You “Shazam” Music From Its Sleeve Art

Record Player can identify album covers for you - just upload a photo of the album art. You can then stream the album via Spotify.

Here’s something for your next crate dig: Record Player is a site that can identify album covers for you and let you listen to the music immediately on Spotify. The way it works is you visit the Record Player site on your phone and login to your Spotify account. You then take a picture of an album cover (whether that’s vinyl, CDs, cassettes, and so on) and upload it. It then sends the photo to Google Vision which automatically identifies the album art, and Record Player then allows you to stream the album via Spotify.

Though record stores are no longer the DJ haunt they used to be, buying music in a brick and mortar shop is still a pastime for some DJs. Using Record Player means you don’t have to queue at the listening station just to hear an album, plus it makes rummaging through vinyl flea markets and swap meets easier, especially if you’re faced with obscure covers that have no artist / album names on them.

Check out the video of it in action below.
