Akai and Retronyms have just unveiled iMPC Pro 2, the latest version of its iOS drum pad sequencing app. The update includes a raft of new features, including the ability record, warp, and pitch shift audio tracks, turning the iMPC Pro 2 into a full-on digital audio workstation for the iPad. It now supports Audio Units plugins, allowing you to use supported AU instruments in your project. Ableton Link has also been thrown into the mix, letting you sync it with other Link-enabled apps such as Ableton Live, Mixvibes’ Remixvibes and Cross DJ, among others.
The iPad continues to mature as a platform for on-the-go music production: though there’s nothing like the feeling of mashing actual MPC drum pads, the original iMPC Pro was responsive and fun to use both in and out of the studio, plus an iPad is a lot more portable than even the most compact of MPCs. The iMPC Pro 2 now includes digital audio workstation-style track recording and editing, adding even more power to an already impressive app. Watch out for our review of it soon.
