Serato Partners With Roland, New Project Underway

Serato just partnered with Roland, the company behind drum machines like the TR-808 and TR-909 that have shaped dance music as we know it.

Serato just announced a partnership with Roland, the Japanese music giant behind legendary synthesisers and genre-defining drum machines like the TR-808 and TR-909. The only detail shared was that the two companies are working on something that will “redefine what it means to be a DJ”, which will be unveiled on 9 September 2016 through a live broadcast.

We have no clue as to what Serato and Roland are cooking. Will it be completely new hardware? Will it be Serato DJ compatibility or integration with existing Roland gear? All we’ve got so far is the teaser video over at the Serato x Roland site which you’ll want to check out, as well as the promo video below for the 9 September event. Get speculating, folks!

What kind of gear do you think they’re coming up with? Will it be a combination of production and DJ kit fused into a single unit? Or perhaps an all-in-one system with Serato as software? Tell us what you think below.
