Over To You: Which Windows Laptop Should I Buy for DJing?

The HP Envy is on the radar of our reader looking for a Windows laptop for DJing. If you’re a Windows DJ, do you think this is a good choice, or do you have another suggestion?

Digital DJ Tips member Tito Pacheco writes: “I’m in the process of upgrading my laptop and will soon have the new Traktor Kontrol S8 which comes with Traktor Pro 2. I’ve been looking at the Envy 17 by HP and prefer Windows as my OS (touchscreen not necessary). Just want advice on whether this is a good choice, and if not, what I should buy that will run my DJ software and hardware optimally.”

Digital DJ says:

Most DJs use Macs, it seems (more than half of our readers, according to the Global Digital DJ Census results). We do. So I’m going to front up and say I’m not well placed to answer your question. And with Windows laptops, of course, it’s not quite as easy, as where there are only a few models/specs for Mac, there are literally thousands for Windows.

What I will say is that as long as you have plenty of memory, and hard drive space and your laptop is modern, things like durability and screen size trump performance tweaks and graphics cards and the like (although traditionally DJs seem to have fewer problems with Intel than AMD processors). But I’d rather throw this one over to (the significant minority of) our audience who use PCs day in, day out for DJing to help you out here, Tito. (We’ve had this question before, but it was a long time ago, and times do change…)

So, over to you. Do you DJ with a Windows PC? Which model, and why? Please share your advice with Tito to help him choose.
