Cross DJ For Android 1.2 Gets External Mixer “Hack”

DJ splitter cable? Check. Old school mixer? Check. RCA cables? Check. Er, Android device? Check! Time to start DJing…

While it can’t be called true external mixing (due to the fact that it uses the age-old mono splitter cable technique to pull the trick off), the second iteration of this program – Cross DJ For Android 1.2 – nonetheless now has the capability of being run through any external mixer, meaning you can use the software as your “decks” and any mixer as your, well, mixer.

As you’ll see in the video below (if you’re not already aware of how this works), you use various cables from the Android device to give you two pseudo-stereo inputs to feed into two channels of any DJ mixer. While such a “hack” isn’t going to give you top-end quality, it’s certainly going to be good enough for home, parties, bars and so on, and as a backup system. It’s nothing if not simple.

This release of the app is not all about the external mixer capability though, as Cross For Android – the most promising of the thin-on-the-ground batch of Android DJ apps that are out there – now has a host of other improvements. This time around there is progressive pitch control for easier use, autogain (smart move on a tablet/smartphone app), improved music navigation, Pioneer EQs (not sure what that gives you, but hey), and compatibility with the popular HTC One. Oh, and it looks nicer too. Very good. Now, here’s that video:
