NAMM 2013: Gemini G4V Controller For Virtual DJ Announced

The Gemini G4V offers a four-channel mixer (not sure if it’s standalone), and performance pads, and comes optimised for Virtual DJ.

The Gemini G4V was announced today ahead of the NAMM Show 2013. The unit is a USB DJ controller/audio interface with a four-channel mixer.

The Gemini G4V adds 16 multi-function performance pads and rotary encoders to a basic Dj controller design, and aesthetically is much in the style of the Vestax VCI-380, the Vestax VCI-400 and Pioneer’s DDJ-SX. “The pre-mapped FX controls for Virtual DJ bring immediate results upon first use,” says Gemini, although it’s unclear whether this is so with any supplied version of Virtual DJ LE – quality FX in Virtual DJ LE are conspicuously absent.

The sound card is 24-bit, the faders and jogwheels are 14-bit, and if it has a standalone mixer as I suspect, plus decent output options, it may well be welcomed by the Virtual DJ community for bringing some of the performance functions of those other controllers at a reasonable price. However, to me it is looks clear that this is a controller waiting for Virtual DJ 8 to appear.

Price, full spec and build quality will all be on our agenda when we visit the Gemini booth to get a video and hands-on low-down at NAMM this week.

Promising new controller for Virtual DJ users, or a blatant copy of other brands’ devices? Or a bit of both? Let us know your views on the new Gemini G4V in the comments below.
