NAMM 2013: Battery-Powered Lighting From American DJ

As bright as bigger units, but small and light enough to fit in your gig bag: The Mega Go Flood Par from American DJ.

We love how lighting has got smaller, brighter and cheaper in the last couple of years, with LED technology really shaking things up. Now American DJ has taken things further with a multi-colour battery powered wash-style light that runs on a rechargeable lithium battery.

Mega Go Flood Par is the latest addition to ADJ’s line of portable, battery-powered lights, the Go Series, and its 27 x 4.5W RGB LEDs will run for 4.5 hours on a 6.5 hour charge. The light offers a broad choice of DMX and manual control options, and includes 0-100% electronic dimming, LED pulse and strobe effects, fast or slow color change operation, and 35 built-in color macros. There are a total of 5 operational modes to choose from: Auto Mode; Sound Active Mode; Stand Alone Mode; Master-Slave Mode; and DMX Mode.

DMX users can further select from seven different channel options for programming flexibility, but I can see this being used as a go-to device to simply add some colour behind a DJ booth with a minimum of fuss on one of the auto settings, no wires at all.

The Mega Go Flood Par weighs just 3 lbs (1kg), and its low-profile case measures 8 x 7.8 x 3.8″ (202 x 15 x 92 mm), meaning it’ll easily slip in your gig bag. Price will be $179.95.

Are you tempted by the recent advances in cheap, pwerful, small lighting units to add some lighting to your DJ rig? Do you already have some portable lighting? Share your thoughts in the comments.
