BPM 2012: Vestax Spin2 Talkthrough

We previewed the Vestax Spin2 at the beginning of our BPM 2012 coverage, and now we’re safely back in the office we’ve had a chance to get the video up online too.

If you’re a Mac/iOS person who loves all the advantages of Algoriddim’s djay software (cross-platform library sharing, “cloud” cue points etc), then this is definitely a controller you should look at, as it’s Apple-approved to work with the lot.

Designed for the home/party DJ rather than the pro, it nonetheless packs all you need to spin away from either your iPad or your Mac (or indeed, your iPhone), all using versions of the Algoriddim software.

We liked the concept but found it to be a bit pricey for what it is, and also the jogwheel performance was a bit “woolly”. It remains to be seen the street price, though, and if it is a little lower than early guesses, this update of the Vestax Spin controller could be a hit.

Pretty neat, or not for you? Is this kind of cross-platform stuff a gimmick, or the way of the future? Please share your thoughts in the comments.
